Travel bloggers enjoy Finnish winter exotics

40 международных туристических блогеров должны прибыть в Финляндию на этой неделе и познакомиться с финской культуры и зимой. Группа состоит из признанных блоггеров, часть из которых путешествуют по всему миру уже в течение многих лет .

International travel bloggers are taken to the most intriguing destinations in Finland by the Nordic Bloggers’ Experience which is the largest travel blogger event ever organised in Finland. The Nordic Bloggers’ Experience, the NBE, is organised by the Nordic Travel Fair Matka, Visit Helsinki and Visit Finland.

From over 100 applicants the chosen 40 travel bloggers arrive in Finland this week and get acquainted with the Finnish culture and winter. The group consists of internationally acknowledged travel bloggers some of which have toured the world already for years.

Programme for the bloggers starts already a few days before the main event, the Nordic Travel Fair Matka, as the bloggers are taken all around Finland. Their programme includes trips from Lapland’s capital Rovaniemi to the most southern parts of Finland and experiences from husky safaris to the local cuisine of the archipelago. The bloggers have been divided into three groups according to their interests: food and culture, fashion and design, nature and adventure. After their tailored adventures the bloggers return to Helsinki and to the Nordic Travel Fair Matka where they take part in a seminar and meet travel professionals.

Blogs are a growing media

The bloggers arriving in Finland have altogether over 2 million readers. The Finnish travel industry has been the pioneer in creating new forms of cooperation with this growing media. For instance, the Finnish Tourist Board has already for years organised trips to Finland for international travel bloggers. According to the PR and Media visit Coordinator Virpi Aittokoski, travel blogs reach the right target group and working with the bloggers is creative and loads of fun.

- With this cooperation we get visibility in different forms: in the social media, videos, blogs and also in the printed media. Bloggers often join forces and share the same articles. The number of readers for certain articles and travel news can thus be very high around the world, explains Aittokoski.

Bloggers meet Helsinki

The bloggers in the Nordic Bloggers’ Experience are flown to and around Finland by Finnair. One part of the experience is to test Finnair’s flight simulator with the help of a flight captain. - More and more travel plans are made online so it is essential for the airlines to be online as well. Bloggers are more professional and their meaning has increased when making travel plans, states Communications Manager Mari Rouvi from Finnair.

On the Wednesday’s panel discussion Bloggers & Industry, the bloggers discuss the forms of cooperation with the industry’s representatives. During their days at the Matka fair the bloggers meet representatives of different countries and regions around the world and make their travel plans.

The NBE bloggers also spend a couple of days in Helsinki. On Friday 17 January the best of Helsinki is presented to them in one day.

- Visit Helsinki has organised different activities for the bloggers. Among other things they get acquainted with the culinary scene and various winter activities of Helsinki with the help of city orienteering. The bloggers get inspired by Finnish design and get to do some art themselves, explains PR Coordinator Eeva Tulenheimo from Visit Helsinki.

The tailored trips and all other arrangements for the Nordic Bloggers’ Experience is organised by CEO Inna-Pirjetta Lahti from Innastus Oy. The Nordic Bloggers’ Experience is this year organised for the first time.

The Nordic Travel Fair Matka is the largest travel event in Northern Europe presenting travel destinations from Finland and around the world on 16 – 19 January 2014 at Messukeskus, Expo and Convention Centre Helsinki. The event is open for the professionals of the travel industry on Thursday 16 January from 9 am to 7 pm and on Friday 17 January from 9 am to noon. Matka and Caravan are open to the general public on Friday from noon to 7 pm and on Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm.
