Central Arkansas Holiday Festivities are Dec. 6-8

Get ready to do some major Christmas celebrating as the first full weekend in December has a bucketful of activities going on. Be prepared to start early and finish up late.

You can cross a bunch of people off your shopping list after attending the Arkansas Craft Guild‘s 35th annual Christmas Showcase. It’s Dec. 6-8 at the Statehouse Convention Center in Little Rock. More than 90 artists offer unique handcrafted fine jewelry, glass vases, art photography, wood work, artisan purses, decorative and functional pottery, handwoven clothing and accessories and furniture. Also featured are candles, sculpture, paintings, bath and spa products and much more. Shop for unique items for others or add to your collection of Arkansas art. Admission is $5, with free admission for the Saturday morning early bird shoppers’ special, 8 a.m.-10 a.m.

The annual Big Jingle Jubilee Parade kicks off on Saturday, Dec. 7. The parade features floats, marching bands, animals, and two very special grand marshals — Mr. and Mrs. Claus. It travels west on Capitol Avenue, ending at the front of the Arkansas State Capitol.

That’s where the 75th annual State Capitol Lighting Ceremony begins at dusk. Secretary of State Mark Martin throws the switch to light up the building. Visit with Santa in the rotunda, enjoy entertainment, take part in children’s activities, and watch fireworks. This year’s event includes a special tribute to Pearl Harbor veterans. The State Capitol lights are on nightly through December 31.

tinsel-and-tutus_ConwayConway’s Tinsel and Tutus Holiday Concert is Saturday, Dec. 7. The curtain goes up at 7:30 p.m. in Reynolds Performance Hall on the University of Central Arkansas campus. The Conway Symphony Orchestra performs old favorites plus new arrangements of holiday classics. Also on the program are highlights from The Nutcracker danced by the Arkansas Festival Ballet and the Central Arkansas Children’s Choir. Admission is $20-$38 for adults, $6 for children.

You’ll be able to get up-close-and-personal with the annual Burns Park sparkling spectacular Dashin’ Thru the Lights, Saturday, Dec. 7. Run, walk or stroll through the Hometown Holiday Lights extravaganza in the North Little Rock park from 5 p.m.-6 p.m. It is the one night you can go through the lights on foot and even bring the family pet with you.

The dash is wheelchair and stroller friendly. Pets, which much be leashed, are welcome after 5:15 p.m. A shuttle is available at the end of the display to return you to the parking lot if you decide you don’t want to go back through on foot. Registration and check-in begins at 4:30 p.m. at the Burns Park Softball Complex parking lot. The Holiday Lights Festival is from 4 p.m-7 p.m. on Dec. 14.
